Impact of Thai Floods on Toray’s Operations (Update 2)

Toray Industries, Inc. (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Akihiro Nikkaku; hereinafter referred to as “Toray”) today announced the latest situation regarding the impact of the large-scale floods in Thailand on Toray Group’s operations, the details of which are described below. *Underlined parts are updated information.

1.Damage Status
Ayutthaya Plant of Thai Toray Synthetics Co., Ltd. (TTS), which halted operations on the evening of October 6, was confirmed to be inundated on October 14 and its first floor is currently under water. The plant is currently not accessible as there is an evacuation order in place.
TTS’s Bangkok Plant also halted operations on October 26, as areas near the plant got inundated.
Measures to protect the production facility from the flooding were completed on the 28th. (There has been no flooding in the plant.)
The plants of Thai Toray Textile Mills (TTTM) and TTS in Nakhon Pathom also suspended their operations by November 1 and similar measures were implemented to protect the facilities from the flooding. (The plants are partially flooded).
As of the preparation of this announcement, there has been no material or personnel damage due to the floods at Toray group companies or plants other than at TTS’s Ayutthaya Plant.

All of the 44 Japanese family members of 16 Japanese Toray employees working in Thailand have returned to Japan on October 26.
Also, 10 out of the 41 employees on dispatch to Thailand have returned to Japan by October 28.
2.Impact on Fiber Product (Yarns) Supply
Toray has been earnestly responding to the impact on fiber product (yarn) supply following the closedown of the above plants by increasing production at group companies and checking the possibility of replacing the products with other types of products. At the same time, the company expects only a minimal impact on supply in the Japanese market, partly because of the small volume of yarn exports from TTS to the Japanese market.
Specifically, Toray is boosting production at its four domestic plants (Mishima, Ishikawa, Aichi and Okazaki Plants) to the maximum possible extent, while cooperating with its overseas subsidiaries and affiliates in Indonesia, Republic of Korea and China, in an effort to maintain stable supply of the particular products by leveraging the Toray Group’s global production structure.
Toray is currently in the process of confirming the impact on other products and the measures to be taken.
3.Outlook for Plant Resumption and Impact on Business Performance
The resumption of operations of these plants is yet to be determined. Each plant is currently preparing for restoration of operations once the evacuation order for the area is lifted. Toray shall make all-out efforts to grasp the details of the damages inflicted by the floods on the Group’s business performance, and shall make swift announcements upon identifying any significant impact.
