Toray highlights TORELINA® PPS thermal management solutions at PIAE 2018 in Mannheim

Toray resins Europe exhibits at the "Plastics in Automotive Engineering" congress in Mannheim. The subsidiary of the Japanese Toray Group places a focus on PPS resins.

Neu-Isenburg, 08.03.2018 – The congress "Plastics in Automotive Engineering" (PIAE) will take place at the Congress Center Rosengarten in Mannheim on 14 and 15 March 2018. PIAE is the world’s largest congress organized by VDI for the automotive industry, with about 1500 participants and more than 110 exhibitors. Toray Resins Europe, a subsidiary of the Toray Group, will participate. The company will highlight the TORELINA® PPS product range. This high-performance resin is used especially in thermal management application in automotive powertrains. Furthermore, a new PPS compounding facility, which will open in Hungary this year, will be highlighted.

Visitors at the PIAE can take a closer look at example TORELINA® PPS applications at the booth of Toray Resins Europe GmbH (booth 38). The company will be exhibiting a thermal management module, an HEV inverter and motor parts. PPS cord and woven insulation for electric motors will also be on display. In addition, Toray experts will be on site to discuss the development of automotive coolant systems, including future e-mobility solutions.

PPS offers many advantages in thermal management

PPS resins are characterized by their excellent resistance to high temperatures and hydrolysis. This makes the material particularly suitable for automotive powertrain coolant systems. With its proprietary formulation technology, Toray ensures that its products demonstrate exceptional durability in thermal management systems using advanced European coolants. In addition, the material’s coefficient of thermal expansion is similarly low to that of aluminum. The resulting excellent dimensional stability allows design engineers to work with very small clearances between components.

Toray is the world leader in PPS

Toray is the world’s largest integrated PPS supplier. At locations in Japan and South Korea, the company has the largest PPS polymer capacity while at the same time also producing polymer feedstock. A total of eight locations in six countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas are producing PPS compounded grades. The Toray Group also supplies PPS stock shapes and fiber products and is the sole supplier of PPS films.

Investing in the European market

Toray Resins Europe GmbH was established in 2015. Its aim is to increase customer service and technical support in large part to customers supplying the European automotive industry. Toray wants to continue this focus on enhancing customer satisfaction in Europe and at the same time meet the growing demand for PPS. To do so, the company will start producing existing commercial PPS grades in Hungary in March 2018. Also in 2018, Toray will open a new development center in Neufahrn near Munich, which will focus on innovation and collaboration with the European automotive industry. The Toray Automotive Center Europe (AMCEU) is intended to draw together research and development efforts from European automotive OEMs and key suppliers for the use of advanced materials and to coordinate joint projects in application and process development.
