Industrial Visit by USM Applied Statistic Students to Penfabric, Toray Group (Malaysia)

Recently on 19 March 2014, Toray Group Malaysia (TGM) played host to a group of USM’s applied statistic students for an educational visit to Penfabric Mill 4/HO. Led by Professor Dr. H.C. Low and 3 staff members, the industrial visit was aimed at giving the 30 odd USM students a first-hand knowledge of real live factory operations, particularly in the various statistical tools used on the fabric production floor. On hand to welcome the USM delegation were the Penfabric’s Director cum General Manager of Production, Mr. S.B. Ho and a few key staff members. After a preview of the TGM’s corporate video, slides presentation and explanation of the production operations, the visitors were led to a tour of the factory floor and sales showroom. Later at the Q&A session, variable topics were raised and many questions were clarified, to the satisfaction of the enthusiastic students. In her “Thank you” speech, Professor Dr. Low expressed USM’s thanks and appreciation to TGM for the warmth hospitality and well-organised visit. The education visit was a memorable and eye-opening event for her staffs and students, who have all enjoyed and learned much from the talk and the factory tour, she added. The visit ended with some light refreshment and exchange of memento. TGM is glad that this visitation, at the special request of USM, has greatly benefited the USM’s students.
