Toray to Enhance Logistic Supply Chain of Film Products and Sales Service in ASEAN Countries

Toray Industries, Inc. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President: Akihiro Nikkaku; hereinafter referred to as "Toray") announced today that it started offering a one-stop service for inventory management, distribution service and processing of film products in an integrated manner at Toray International Trading (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (abbr. "TITH") targeting the ASAEN countries from April. Under the alliance with a Thai local partner company, TITH enhanced its logistic bases and enabled value-added proposals and timely delivery to end users by responding to not only original film sales in containers but also small-lot delivery and primary processing such as material size customization. With this initiative, the first one among Japanese original Plastic Film maker, Toray aims to expand sales in the ASEAN industrial and wrapping film market to 4.0 billion yen in fiscal 2018 and 8.0 billion yen in fiscal 2020. In the ASEAN market, Toray already manufactures and sells processed film products led by LUMIRROR® polyester film for industrial and wrapping uses. The conventional distribution channel was to sell in containers the original fabrics of films produced at Toray Group companies in Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Republic of Korea to several specialized trading firms, from whom the products would be distributed to individual sales agents and processing companies and then to end users. Meanwhile in Southeast Asia, ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) was established at the end of 2015, creating an enormous economic zone with a population of 620 million, exceeding the European Union (EU) and a total production of 2.5 trillion dollar (about 300 trillion yen). The markets for smartphone components and circuit peripheral materials in addition to automobile and electric materials are expected to grow, and it is clear that the service has to be more meticulous than ever in order to respond to the changes in the market and the speed at which the performance and quality of products improves. The initiative announced this time captures such trends in the market, and Toray aims to improve the satisfaction of its broad-based, diverse local customers, while realizing speedy development and offering Asian value added film products. To become a corporate group that realizes continuous business profit expansion, Toray has been promoting the strengthening of sales force as one of the basic strategies of Medium-term Management Program Project AP-G 2016. Toray will continue to ensure solution-based sales and expand business globally by formulating business strategies taking into consideration the entire supply chain.
