The Grand Opening Ceremony of “TORAY-USM Knowledge Transfer Centre” by the Minister of Higher Education

December 7, 2015 marked another milestone for Toray Malaysia when the newly completed four-storey “TORAY-USM Knowledge Transfer Centre” at Penang Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)’s main campus was officially opened by the Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, the Minister of Higher Education. Among the distinguished guests present were Dr. Makio Miyagawa, Japan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Dato’ Akihiro Nikkaku, President of Toray Industries, Inc., Japan and top management from Toray, USM and the Malaysian Government. The Centre, built with the RM4 million donation by Toray Malaysia in conjunction with our 40th Anniversary celebration in 2013, is a dream come true after more than 2 years of planning, patience and persistence. Subscribed to its belief that human capital is the best national asset, Toray is honoured to partner with USM to promote and preserve the local culture, traditions, heritage, environment and other related issues at this innovative Centre, which also provide facilities for graduate research as well as integration and networking of local and international researchers. This meaningful Toray-USM partnership will further endorse the University’s position as a leading centre of excellence in the region. While we take pride that Toray-USM partnership was nominated as and bestowed with Finalist of the “The Academia-Industry Collaboration Award for 2015 by the Ministry of Higher Education, we look forward to more joint collaborations with local universities, to push Malaysia forward internationally.
