Battery Separator Film Plant Opens at Penfibre on 23rd April 2015
23rd April 2015 marked another milestone for Penfibre Sdn. Berhad when the new Battery Separator Film (BSF) plant was declared opened, jointly by Mr. S. Hagiwara, Toray’s Senior Vice President and Mr. O. Inoue, the Managing Director of Toray Battery Separator Film Co.,Ltd (TBSF) at its BSF Division located at Bayan Lepas. The new business venture is part of Toray’s medium-term management program Project AP-G 2016 launched in April 2014.
With technical and marketing support from TBSF, the construction of this project was completed at the end of 2014 while commercial production commenced in January 2015. Marketed under the trademark “SETELA™”, the highly performance and reliable BSF are channeled to customers in the rapidly growing ASEAN countries which have a combined consumer population of exceeding 600 million and annual growth rates of 5% to 7%.
At the celebration luncheon, Penang’s Chief Minister Tuan Lim Guan Eng thanked Toray for the continuous re-investments. Besides providing thousands of job opportunity to Malaysians, the Chief Minister is appreciative of the various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives undertaken by Toray over the years.
Mr. R. Noda, the Consul-General of Japan in Penang also commended Toray for boosting the Malaysian’s industrialization growth over the last 5 decades. While Malaysian workforce helps Japanese enterprises to grow locally, Toray’s initiative to develop its advanced and high value-added products in Penang will further help Malaysia move up the value-chain, he added.
