Visitation of Mr. Kawase, Counsellor of Japanese Embassy to Penfibre, Toray Group (Malaysia)

On 11th June 2014, Mr. Kawase, Counsellor and Chief of Economic Section, Embassy of Japan paid a courtesy visit to Toray Group (Malaysia) [TGM]. Following a brief introduction of TGM, Mr. Kawase was guided to a tour of the Film Division at Penfibre Sdn. Berhad [Penfibre]. Established in 1973, Penfibre has become the world’s leading supplier of the finest quality polyester staple fibres to the top producers of premium grade sewing threads. In 1998, the company diversified by venturing into the production of Toray's Lumirror Polyster (PET) Film, with a current PET film-forming capacity of 3,600 tons per month. With technical support of Toray Advanced Film Co. Ltd, Penfibre had in April 2014 succeeded in operating its new RM37.0 million state-of-the-art metalized film plant production facilities, with an equipped production capacity of 375 tons of high value-added metalized polyester (PET) packaging films per month. These superior and high performance metalized films are engineered to meet the stringent requirements of its customers, in both Japan and South East Asian regions which has a massive consumer population of exceeding 600 million and annual growth rates of 3% to 5%. Mr. Kawase was truly impressed with the tour of Penfibre which produces advanced and high value-added products locally. It syncs with the Malaysian Government’s efforts to move up the value-chain manufacturing in Malaysia.
