Toray invited to the official launch of “USM Foundation”

On 6th November 2014, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) launched its “USM Foundation”, with the objectives of garnering funds to execute and achieve the university objectives. Being the contributor to the “TORAY USM KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER CENTRE”, donated in conjunction with the recent 40th Anniversary celebration of TORAY in Malaysia, Toray was invited to make a mock-cheque presentation to the Pro Chancellor of USM, Tan Sri Datuk Mustafa Mansur. Representing Toray at the ceremony was Mr H. Yoshimura, the MD of TML. Toray’s RM4.0 million funding is in support of the Local Knowledge Programme initiated by USM to promote, protect and salvage the local culture, traditions, heritage, environments and other related issues that are nearly forgotten by today’s modern society. In making this contribution, the following Toray CSR initiatives and policies were taken into consideration: (1) Toray’s Corporate Philosophy of "Contributing to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas, technologies, and products" and efforts to support sustainable development for the local and global society, as a good corporate citizen. (2) Pursuing original programs dedicated to the improvement of social welfare in the local communities, international exchange through traditional culture especially in the advancement of science. (3) Toray Group’s new policies formulated in fiscal year 2013, for all its member companies to undertake CSR initiatives in four priority areas, namely education, the environment, local communities and employees. Toray is honoured to play its roles towards the betterment of the community and nation building.
