Delegates from MITI visited Penfabric, Toray Group (Malaysia)
Being the single largest, integrated textile manufacturer located in Malaysia, Penfabric is honored to be chosen by Ministry of Trade and Industry (MITI) to host an educational visit recently. The tour to Toray Group (Malaysia) on 29th November 2014 was organised in conjunction with the MITI’s regional meeting held in Penang.
On hand to personally welcome the 20 MITI directors and officers were TML MD, Mr. Yoshimura and Penfabric MD, Mr. HS Teh who briefed on the operations and activities of TGM and Penfabric respectively. The guests were then guided to a tour of the fabric showroom, the state-of-the –art integrated R&D systems at the “Aquarium” and the production floor to learn more about the facilities, qualities and variety value-added fabrics currently produced at Penfabric.
Among the many topics raised at the Q&A session were the challenges faced by the Malaysian textile manufacturers; namely industry linkages, labour situation, rising costs of doing business and the stringent environment standards. It is also hoped that the Government could review its current procurement policy by encouraging more of its agencies to buy directly from the local manufacturers.
In the closing address, MITI’s Senior Director Puan Hanibah thanked TGM for the hospitality as her staff have gained much hand-on learning experiences at Penfabric. The mutual exchange helped enhance better understandings and working relationship between Toray and MITI.
