PPS Resin TORELINA® Tracking Resistance Grade A660HV Obtains UL and IEC Standards Certifications

 Toray Industries, Inc., (hereinafter referred to as "Toray"; headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Akihiro Nikkaku) today announced a new PPS resin grade TORELINA® A660HV with tracking resistance at 600 volts and greater. This grade meets the highest measure in tracking resistance based on global product safety standards - UL Rank 0*1 and IEC*2 Material Group 1. This new CTI 0 grade is targeted at high voltage electrical applications where the trend is increasing voltage requirements and smaller, compacter designs.  In most resins there is a tradeoff between properties such as tracking resistance, flame retardance and toughness. For example, it is common knowledge that polyamides and polyesters have inherently good tracking resistance and toughness, but require modifiers to be flame retardant that bring trade-offs arising for example from corrosion and in toughness. PPS is an inherently V0 flame retardant material, but requires modification to improve CTI values that bring a tradeoff in toughness.  To address these trade-offs, Toray has introduced its NANOALLOY® technology to finely blend modifiers into PPS to improve strength and moldability while maintaining V0 and achieving CTI 0 tracking performance. These features together can enable smaller part designs with increased voltage requirements.  Going forward, Toray will promote TORELINA A660HV for use in power semiconductor modules for use in railway and solar power housings and in the power control units and chargers for new EV vehicles.

Regarding tracking resistance, in recent years, an increasing number of users are emphasizing on IEC Standards, whose judgment conditions are stricter than those of UL Standards.
